Roddenberry Entertainment has announced a new buildTREK series as part of the year-long centennial celebration of its founder and Star Trek creator, Gene Roddenberry. The first in the set honors the interracial kiss scene, an iconic moment ahead of it’s time. This kiss was between ‘Captain Kirk’ (portrayed by William Shatner) and ‘Lieutenant Uhura’ (portrayed by Nichelle Nichols) in 1968 during the original series’ third season, the first time an interracial kiss was seen on TV in the US.

The larger-than-life brick build, one of four Star Trek pieces in a series by Samuel Hatmaker, honors Gene Roddenberry’s ideals of bridging the gaps between people and appreciating one another’s differences. 2021 marks the centennial of Roddenberry Entertainment’s founder, Gene Roddenberry, and our hope is to have people think and live in the philosophies created by Gene and Star Trek – unity, diversity, and equality. We invite fans to be a part of the celebration to ‘thinkTREK’ and embrace those ideals this year, and forever.

“The series of brick builds take the hope and progress that my father deeply believed we would achieve in the future and memorializes them in an image. Using Hatmaker’s creativity this project gives us the opportunity to celebrate not only my father’s vision, but artists like Hatmaker who were inspired by him,” Rod Roddenberry, Roddenberry Entertainment and son of Gene Roddenberry.
