LOS ANGELES (November 15, 2023) – Created as a means of giving back and supporting the stunt community during the long entertainment industry strikes, Stunt Previz Showdown, produced by FILMIK, 87North Productions, and Narrator Inc., crowned Team Femme Fatale as the grand prize winner of the inaugural competitive showcase. 10 top-tier teams competed for the grand prize of $10,000. Led by captain Josh Fried, the team included Enele Tauteoli, Sinalau Tauteoli, Bethany Curry, Clanique Greyling, Mallory Thompson, Chelsey Goldsmith, Colby Lemmo, Kara Petersen, and Samantha Win (link to the winning video is here).

Stunt Previz Showdown’s live competition took place at the 87North action design facility in Los Angeles. During the competition, the teams had access to top industry professionals who supervised as coaches, including fight coordinator Jeremy Marinas (“John Wick 4”, “Fast X”), stunt coordinator Heidi Moneymaker(“Guardians of the Galaxy 3”, “Avatar: The Way of Water”), and 2nd unit director Chris O’Hara (“The Outlaws,” the upcoming “The Fall Guy”).

A panel of four judges consisting of world renown action director/producer David Leitch (“John Wick,” “Deadpool 2,” the upcoming “The Fall Guy”), producer Kelly McCormick (“Atomic Blonde,” “Bullet Train,” upcoming “The Fall Guy”), Ryan Jones (EVP, Universal Pictures), and 2nd unit director Jonathan (JoJo) Eusebio (“Violent Night,” “Obi Wan Kenobi,” “Kate”) judged and evaluated entries based on criteria such as safety, choreography, coordinating and performance, camera work, editing, and polish/utility, which includes sound design and VFX.

Teams were given the same script and timeline to shoot and edit action sequences for a final previz and used FILMIK, an integrated production and workflow platform, to get visibility and feedback from judges.

“By nature, the stunt community is a strong and resilient one, but the strikes put productions on pause. While we were in that downtime, my friends at FILMIK, Narrator Inc. and my company, 87North, wanted to give action designers and performers an opportunity to showcase their skills.” said Leitch. “We had a great turnout at our first Stunt Previz Showdown and we were thrilled to see so much talent, effort and creativity brought by the teams.”

“We were floored by the creativity and energy the coaches, judges and all the teams brought to this competition,” said Tim Connolly, CEO of FILMIK. “The camaraderie and goodwill of the stunt community was shining bright and we all congratulate Femme Fatale as they brilliantly executed this competition.”
