It’s not every day that I get the chance to converse with someone who has touched so many lives. Cliff Bleszinski, fondly known as CliffyB in the gaming world, is a man of diverse talents. From iconic video games to memoir writing, Broadway, and now the realm of graphic novels, his journey is awe-inspiring. I owe a huge thanks to Ariel Landrum for orchestrating this interview, allowing me to dive deep into the emotional whirlwind that birthed Scrapper.
Resonating with Heart
Our shared passion for media led to some intriguing discussions. Bleszinski’s insights into why we connect with certain media pieces were enlightening. The contrast between “Suicide Squad” (David Ayer) and “The Suicide Squad” (James Gunn) was particularly poignant. Characters should resonate with us naturally, much like the wave of nostalgia and emotion I felt during the climax of Toy Story 3.
Moreover, the emotional connection we form with media often mirrors our personal experiences, making it a powerful tool for introspection and growth. Bleszinski’s reflections on the importance of the heart in storytelling serve as a reminder that genuine emotional connections can leave a lasting impact, resonating with audiences long after the credits roll.
Love Comes to Us in Many Forms
One revelation that struck me was how Bleszinski found Lady through a breeder. He took a moment to share, “I know I should adopt, not shop… but we do donate to the local SVCA”. This confession reinforced my belief that love finds us in the most unexpected ways. There is complexity in the world that sometimes results in us not always having the ability to align with our values. He did his best to remady any internal conflict through contributions to shelters. It was important to him that he underscored his expansive heart. It’s not about vanity but genuine kindness, evident in how he speaks of those he holds dear and his unique expressions of love.
Furthermore, the bond between a pet and its owner is profound, transcending the circumstances of their meeting. He knew the moment he met Lady she was the dog for him. Whether through adoption or purchase, the essence lies in the love and care provided. The stories of our pets become intertwined with our own, creating a tapestry of memories, emotions, and experiences that shape our lives.
It’s Ok to Seek Help
Life isn’t always a bed of roses. There are times when the weight of the world feels unbearable. But it’s okay to seek help. Whether it’s therapy, confiding in friends, or finding solace in daily routines, the journey to wellness begins with acknowledging our struggles. I’ve grappled with my own mental health challenges, and the road to recovery is often paved with setbacks. Bleszinski’s candid sharing about the loss of his beloved dog Teddy and the shrine he has in his memory underscores the depth of the bond we share with our pets. As Bleszinski poignantly mentioned, “Every day, I tell Teddy how much I miss him. It’s a heartache that never truly goes away.” It’s essential to remember that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and every step taken towards healing is a testament to one’s resilience.
Yet, it’s those unexpected moments of encouragement, like a kind word from a stranger, that can illuminate our path. Bleszinski’s candid sharing about the loss of his beloved dog Teddy and the shrine he has in his memory underscores the depth of the bond we share with our pets. It’s essential to remember that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and every step taken towards healing is a testament to one’s resilience.
Allow Yourself to Feel
In today’s world, societal norms often stifle emotional expression, especially among men. Bleszinski’s candidness about channeling his grief for Teddy into love for Lady was both touching and inspiring. Emotions, when channeled positively, can be a powerful catalyst for healing and personal growth.
By acknowledging and embracing our feelings, we pave the way for transformative experiences that enrich our lives and the lives of those around us. Bleszinski’s journey from grief to love serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us that even in the face of profound loss, there’s always room for love, growth, and new beginnings.
