Breakthrough” invites audiences on a heartening journey of faith and miracles. At the story’s center is 14-year-old John Smith (Marcel Ruiz), who, after being submerged under icy water for 20 minutes, makes a miraculous recovery defying medical odds. His mother, Joyce, a sterling portrayal by Chrissy Metz, fervently prays as her son teeters on the brink of death, and this miracle unfolds. A touching narrative for the Easter season, “Breakthrough” is crafted with a sincerity that stirs deep emotions.

While I’ve fortunately never been in a life-threatening situation like John’s, the film underscored the immense fear and desperation such an event could trigger. It was astounding how, despite the grim prognosis, Joyce never wavered in her faith, even inspiring others in the face of despair. Her steadfast belief sets a poignant example of maternal love and resilience.

Chrissy Metz delivers a stirring performance as Joyce. Her words are heartfelt and compelling, making us feel her anguish and hope. Known for her stellar work in “This is Us,” Metz’s brilliance shines undeniably in this role, making her an ideal choice.

Topher Grace shines as Pastor Jason Noble instills unwavering faith in Joyce about her son’s recovery. His portrayal is natural and believable, adding depth to his character, especially when his faith is tested.

Breakthrough” imparts an uplifting message of hope and faith, inspiring us to face our struggles head-on, no matter how insurmountable they may seem. Whether or not you are a believer, this movie is a must-see as it harnesses the power to make one believe in miracles. After all, as the Adidas tagline states, “Impossible is Nothing.” Watch it with a companion, for you may find yourself shedding tears of joy, and there’s nothing like a friend’s shoulder to lean on.
