[Jeopardy](https://www.jeopardy.com/), [Wheel of Fortune](https://www.wheeloffortune.com/), [Family Feud](https://www.familyfeud.com/). These are some of the game shows families across America watch to play along or witness the contestants have a chance to possibly win big. Many would take that chance to go on TV to win big, but there was one instance in 1984 where a lone, unemployed ice cream truck driver took his chance on a game show called [Press Your Luck.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Press_Your_Luck)

Meet Michael Larson (played by [Paul Walter Hauser](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3236159/)), a man from Ohio who arrives at the _Press Your Luck_ audition hoping to make it onto the show. He becomes a contestant, and begins to spin. Spin after spin, he lands on big prizes and scores extra spins to continue his streak. With his winnings climbing higher and higher, the studio executives begin to suspect something’s off. Larson keeps winning, and hasn’t hit the infamous Whammy even once (the game-ending penalty that wipes out your earnings). Suspicion grows. Executives try to intervene, but Larson walks away with an unheard-of $110,237.

Based on a true story, _[The Luckiest Man in America](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt32331377/)_ explores how Michael Larson memorized the game’s pattern to secure his record-breaking win and setting off a national controversy and accusations of cheating.

Set in May 1984, the film places audiences in Larson’s shoes, inviting them to feel the tension and adrenaline of each spin. Directed by [Samir Oliveros](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6949762/) and co-written with [Maggie Briggs](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm8663897/), the movie strikes a delicate balance between historical retelling and dramatic flair, making the viewer root for a man who outwitted the system. Whether Larson is seen as a genius or a cheat, his story is impossible to ignore.

With a strong ensemble cast that includes [Walton Goggins](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0324658/), [Shamier Anderson](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3875456/), [David Strathairn](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000657/?ref_=fn_all_nme_1), [Maisie Williams](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3586035/?ref_=fn_all_nme_1), [Patti Harrison](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm8773928/?ref_=fn_all_nme_1), [Brian Geraghty](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1310016/?ref_=fn_all_nme_1), [Haley Bennett](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2247245/), and [Johnny Knoxville](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0424216/?ref_=fn_all_nme_1), this film brought to life the surreal tension of live television and the personal stakes behind one of the most infamous game show runs in history.

_The Luckiest Man in America_ is a 90-minute master class in storytelling. This film asks, what would you risk to win big and who decides if you’ve gone too far?

Don’t miss the story that stunned a nation. _The Luckiest Man in America_ is a thrilling, true-to-life drama about risk, reward, and rewriting the rules. Watch it, and decide for yourself: genius or cheat?
