I believe that in one of unlockable files in Assassin’s Creed IV:Black flag it is explained that the first civ were running numerous simulations to predict the future, and in one of them a man named Desmond came up, and they chosed it since it seemed the most probable.

I am now on a quest to find this file in Black Flag! There’s still so many files I have never unlocked in a few of the later games and my goal is to eventually unlock them all.
